The Breezer - the joyride for a curious mind: A weekly newsletter from me, Steve Winduss, at the Batting the Breeze podcast. Spend a few minutes with me discovering historical snippets and fascinating facts related to the forthcoming week. Add to that updates relating to the podcast, a touch of humour and a dash of "lots more". - 24th November 2024.

Happy Sunday!

I have to open this week with a confession. At the start of the week I underwent a full hip replacement (yes, I know I look too young...). Categorising myself as indestructible, I still expected to launch into this week's newsletter with gusto, undeterred by a few pints of nitrous oxide, washed down with a little drop of post-operative morphine.

I would talk about Charles Darwin and the 165th anniversary today of the publication of his masterpiece "On the origin of species". I would share the story of Helen Clark who became New Zealand's first female prime minister 40 years ago on Wednesday.

I would present the Canadian author, Lucy Maude Montgomery, who was born on the same day as Winston Churchill, 150 years ago on Saturday. I would even mention Anne Hodges, the first known human to be hit by a meteorite 70 years ago this week.

But it turns out I am a little less than indestructible and after falling asleep at the desk for the umpteenth time, I have raised the white flag and decided to declare no newletter this week.

All I can do is raise a glass to surgeons the world over, and thank them for the wonderful work that they do.

I hope you have a great Sunday and I look forward to being back in action with all cyclinders firing next week.
